Currently in Nigeria we have gathered lots of speculations trending like wildfire, which involves people reporting loss of taste and smell
I got few questions via my DM asking “could this be one of the symptoms of Covid’19 ?”
No, I am yet to clarify the role of anosmia in Covid’19
But Loss of smell occurs with the common cold and other viral infections of the nose and throat.
In regards to this new occurence, the good news here is that the aforementioned disease is not a rare medical condition, it’s a medical condition called Anosmia

At this point there is need for strict guidance of individuals and proper reorientation inorder to avoid cases of wrong medication
In Essence Anosmia is a partial or complete loss of the sense of smell and as well taste in some cases
In other words it could be termed a common condition which irritates the nose linings such as flu, cold or a particular allergy
What could be the cause and the possible self Medicare to the current outbreak of anosmia?
In Nigeria as a case study, It’s good to know that at the starting point of every rainy or green season, it sets in with lots of ailments such as flu symptoms and feverish conditions in some cases
In most cases it comes as an underlying symptoms of typhoid or malaria
So please at this point it’s very advisable to increase our intake of Vitamins (multivitamins) or Vegetables and fruits preferably, as this will go a long way to boost our immune response against any form of syndrome
Exercise too is very essential
Bathing with hot water mixed with Antiseptic is highly recomendable too
The duration of this medical condition could last for 3 to 7 days, during this period its very important to keep a self isolation
if symptoms persists after few days of self care then it’s advisable to see your doctor for a proper medical checkup and investigation
